Bean-to-cup, traditional espresso, pod or filter – each machine type suits a different setting, skill level and budget. Here’s how to choose the right one.
The right machine for your business depends on three things: how many people will use it, whether you have trained staff to operate it, and the quality of coffee experience you want to deliver. Each machine type has a clear use case – getting this decision right from the start saves time, money and frustration further down the line.
Grinds fresh beans and brews automatically with the press of a button. Café-quality espresso, americano, latte and cappuccino – without a barista. The machine handles everything from grinding to frothing.
The classic barista machine. Produces the highest-quality espresso but requires a trained operator and a separate grinder. The benchmark for cafés, hotel bars and food service environments.
Uses pre-portioned coffee capsules. Extremely simple to use and clean, with minimal maintenance. A practical solution for smaller teams or low-volume settings like boardrooms, reception and guest accommodation areas.
Brews large quantities of filter coffee at once. The most economical solution for high-volume settings where espresso-based drinks aren’t the priority – think conference rooms and canteens.

A bean-to-cup or pod machine. These are designed for self-service, staff press a button and the machine does the rest. Our Franke and Carimali bean-to-cup range automates grinding, dosing, brewing and milk frothing. Barista training is not required.
This is the most common setup for modern Irish offices, hotels with guest self-service, and any environment where coffee needs to “just work.”
A traditional espresso machine. These produce the best possible coffee but require someone who knows how to dial in a grind, pull a shot and texture milk correctly.
Vero Coffee offers barista training through our SCAE-accredited team. If you’re opening a café or upgrading your hotel bar, we can train your team to the same standard used by professional baristas.

Bean-to-cup machines are by far the most popular choice for Irish offices. They produce café-quality espresso, americano, latte and cappuccino at the press of a button, no barista needed. For smaller offices or boardrooms, pod/capsule machines are a convenient and lower-cost option.
A bean-to-cup machine grinds whole coffee beans fresh for every single drink. Unlike pod machines (which use pre-ground capsules) or traditional espresso machines (which require a trained barista), bean-to-cup machines automate the entire process. Staff press a button and the machine handles grinding, brewing and milk frothing automatically. The result is consistently good coffee without any specialist skill.
Yes. Modern bean-to-cup machines include automated milk systems that can froth fresh milk or use granulated milk powder to produce lattes, cappuccinos, flat whites and hot chocolates. Machines with fresh milk systems (like the Franke A600 and A800) produce café-quality microfoam at the touch of a button.
When you buy, you own the machine outright but are responsible for maintenance and repairs. When you rent, you pay a monthly fee that typically includes the machine, servicing, breakdown cover and sometimes coffee beans. Renting is popular with Irish businesses because it removes the upfront cost and keeps maintenance off your plate.
It depends on where in the hotel. For guest self-service areas (lobbies, corridors, meeting rooms), a bean-to-cup machine – like the Franke A800 – delivers a premium experience with no staff involvement. For hotel bars and restaurants where a trained barista is present, a traditional espresso machine like the Carimali Nimble is the better choice for quality and output. Many hotels use both.
Pod machines are a good fit for small offices (under 15 people), boardrooms and reception areas where convenience is the priority. They’re the easiest machines to use and maintain. However, for larger teams, the cost per cup with pods is significantly higher than with whole beans, and the volume throughput is slower. For 20+ staff, a bean-to-cup machine will usually work out more practical and more economical. These machines are also a popular choice for hotel bedrooms.
There is no question too big or too small.
